The IB students’ final exams are done!
NMS is doing its part to keep our school community safe – offline and online. Our school has now been awarded the silver E-Safety Label by European Schoolnet, an upgrade from the bronze label that we held in the past two years. Am 23.04.2016 fand in Berlin die Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaft der Männer im Modernen Fünfkampf statt. Der Fünfkampf besteht aus den Disziplinen Fechten, Reiten, Schwimmen und Combined (Schießen und Laufen). Im Rahmen dieses Wettkampfes fand die Deutsche Juniorenmeisterschaft statt. Timothy Jenner, Kl. Q4, startete für den OSC Potsdam. Er gewann nach einem starken Wettkampf Platz 3.

Letzten Donnerstag, am 07.04.2016, ist unsere Klasse zum Kammermusiksaal gefahren. Auf dem Weg dorthin haben wir einen Spaziergang und noch eine schöne lange Pause im Tiergarten gemacht.Wir haben vier Eichhörnchen beobachtet, die wild über die Bäume tobten – toll!, und fünf Schildkröten (!) – das konnten wir erst gar nicht glauben. Da müsst ihr mal hin, das ist in der Nähe der „Luisen-Insel“. Danach sind wir auf einen tollen Spielplatz gegangen und haben dort unser Lunchpaket verputzt.
Unser Ziel war eigentlich der Kammermusiksaal.
A local community, no matter the size nor its locality, relies on the interaction between individuals. Having volunteered at a retirement home over the past year, I have come to discover the significance of communication between generations in regard to the well-being of society. Over the course of six weeks I have conducted a project that built these relationship and worked towards mutually satisfactory results.
Talking to residents in the care home allowed me to consider ways of contributing to the community. Upon discussing the hobbies of the elderly, it was sad to hear how many people were limited in the activities they could undertake, due to their health. Many residents repeatedly referred to the Gemeindepark and its diminishing beauty. The park’s flora and fauna provide opportunities for walks throughout the day; residents often choose to sit by the pond and watch the ducks while conversing with each other. Unfortunately, the park’s natural beauty is being undermined by the accumulation of rubbish which negatively impacts the well-being of wildlife. Furthermore, the visual pollution associated with litter limits the joy with which people can undertake walks, hence the complaints I hear from the elderly about the ignorance of the youth in regard to the cleanliness of the environment.
Eigentlich wollten wir nur ein paar Ostereier färben, keine große Sache. Dann aber ist schon wieder das Farben-Fieber ausgebrochen und wir konnten nicht mehr aufhören. Wir mussten noch mal loslaufen und richtig viele neue Eier kaufen. Den ganzen Vormittag haben wir herumexperimentiert und immer neue aquarellige, gestalterische Möglichkeiten ausgetüftelt, das hat Riesenspaß gemacht. Jetzt ist nur die Frage: Eier kicken, sie aufessen und die kleinen Kunstwerke wieder zerstören oder sie aufbewahren und vielleicht verschenken? Auf alle Fälle ließen sich die Eindrücke per Foto für die Erinnerung aufbewahren, das ist ja auch schon mal was...und wirkt der flüchtigen Vergänglichkeit entgegen.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum 3. Platz in der Mannschaftsmeisterschaft der Berliner Schulen, WK I !
In der Wettkampfklasse der Oberstufe fand am 10.03.16 die Finalrunde der vier besten Schulen von Berlin statt. In diesem Turnier spielten auch das Jüdische Gymnasium Moses Mendelssohn, das Herder-Gymnasium und das Beethoven-Gymnasium. Im Spiel um Platz 3 gewannen Dominik Goldstein, Kl. Q2, Janek Denzler, Lukas Piters und Simon Peschel, alle Kl. Q4, mit 4:0 Punkten gegen das Jüdische Gymnasium Moses Mendelssohn. Platz 1 belegte das Beethoven-Gymnasium knapp vor dem Herder-Gymnasium.
