Registration for Years 2-13
The Nelson Mandela School admits only students who are considered internationally mobile to Years 2 – 13. The Nelson Mandela School does not participates in the regular admission procedure for Berlin students wishing to join the school in year 7.

Registration for Year 1 - School Year 2027 / 2028:
This registration procedure applies only to Year 1. All children, born between October 1st, 2020 and September 30th, 2021, will begin mandatory schooling in the academic year 2027 / 2028 and can be registered from October 5th, 2026 until October 16th, 2026.

Congratulations, your child is fast approaching school age! If you’ve landed here, you would probably like to register them for the Nelson Mandela School. Because NMS is not a local school, the registration process is a little different.
But just follow these steps carefully to complete the process:
1) Read and follow these documents carefully and fully first!

2) Complete the application form online (available here from October 1st, 2026), making sure that you save it, and then send it as an email attachment without any other documents to:
3) Register your child at your local school (zuständige Grundschule). They will provide you with a completed school transfer application form (Umschulungsantrag).
4) Print out the completed and saved application form twice and then sign both. In order to apply for Year 1, parents must book an in person appointment (link will be available here from October 1st, 2026). Please reserve only one appointment per child. If multiple appointments are reserved, all of those appointments will be cancelled.
5) Submit the form to the school on the booked date together with the documents supporting the application (see checklist).
You must present your application at the school office in person. Appointments to do so will be made available.
