The library started off in one classroom with a handful of volunteer parents. Book stocks totalled circa 1500. We now have two bilingual libraries, one at Pfalzburger Str. 30 (secondary and upper school), and one at Pfalzburger Str. 23 (primary), which are home to circa 100,000 books and periodicals. We also have Spanish and French texts. A library is in the process of being developed at the Babelsberger Str. campus. What services our libraries provide:
- Circa 100,000 books in paper format, numerous periodicals and other media items
- Access to laptops and/or desktop computers within the libraries
- A quiet area to study/research and complete class/homework projects
- Central reservation point for computer suites
The materials found in our libraries are funded via the Educational Resources Fund.
Books may be borrowed for a maximum period of two weeks unless they have been extended by prior arrangement. Books may only be checked out under the borrower’s name. Parents may also become members of the libraries. Parents are not permitted to borrow books in the name of their child/children. Please do not give your children books/DVDs which you have borrowed in your name to return. Extensions of return dates may be made in person, by email or telephone.
Textbooks may be borrowed for a maximum period of one school year. Class set novels are to be returned when the reading period has ceased within the class. Parents /students are legally bound by the rules laid down by the Local Education Authority to replace or submit the cost of any textbooks which have been lost or returned in an unacceptable condition. Books etc. may not be passed on to other students/teachers. Do not lend borrowed items to other members of the school community.
One of the requirements for IB accreditation (International Baccalaureate) is the existence of a professionally managed library, a condition we have met with bravura due to the ongoing efforts of our committed library team.
