The music department of the Nelson Mandela School Berlin offers students an inspiring musical development. Under the guidance of experienced music educators Ira Brauns, Dr. Axel Fischer and Felix Theuner, students receive a comprehensive musical education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application.

We try to integrate extracurricular projects such as visits to operas, rehearsals and concerts as well as cooperation with the Berlin Universität der Künste (UdK) and workshops with professional artists into the lessons on an ongoing basis. This allows the students to broaden their musical horizons, learn from experts and exchange ideas with like-minded people.

The heart of the department is the weekly rehearsals of the school orchestra and the NMS pop choir, on Mondays from 15:55 to 17:25 (10th and 11th hour). These rehearsals not only promote musical development, but also strengthen the sense of community. The pop choir and orchestra provide a platform for individual talents to flourish in collective musical experiences. Rehearsals are creditable in a variety of ways, whether as electives, elective courses, or additional courses in high school. They allow students* to shape their own musical path.

A special highlight is the annual rehearsal trip, where we spend a week together preparing for the end-of-school-year concert. These trips not only deepen our understanding of music, but also strengthen team spirit and cooperation. In addition to the rehearsals, there is a big concert evening in December and before the end of the school year, where we present the rehearsal results of the last half year.

The middle and high school music department at Nelson Mandela School Berlin invites all music enthusiasts to explore their passion, develop talents, and express themselves artistically in a supportive community of like-minded people. This isn't just about music - it's about developing a lifelong love of art and creativity.
