Under the expert leadership of NMS teacher Viola Weikert, students from NMS Primary’s Tanz AG participated in the Berlin-wide “Tanz in der Schule” event on June 13.
Over twenty schools from Berlin and Brandenburg took part in the dance recital at Sporthalle Schöneberg. Students performed a total of 26 dances of many different styles from around the world, ranging from traditional folk dances to modern interpretations of pop songs such as Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You”.
Recently in the NMS Vege garden at P23 we had an expert come to visit and check on the progress of the garden, whilst also teaching the students valuable lessons about caring and harvesting the vegetables. So far it’s been quite successful as we have already harvested some radishes, strawberries and various salads. We hope to continue to grow the garden together and hopefully in the future the kids will also take some valuable life skills with them.

On the 3rd week of May 2018, three journalists came to 5B in Pfalzburgerstrasse 23 because we were learning how to write newspaper articles. They were Ms. Janelle Dumalaon from Deutsche Welle, Ms. Carolyn Malasig who writes online articles for Rappler and Forbes Company, and Mr. Derek Scally, a writer for The Irish Times. They talked about their jobs and gave us tips on how to be good writers and reporters. They also showed us some articles and videos of the work that they do. It was a very interesting week for us.
Bereits zum dritten Mal präsentiert die Fotogalerie Friedrichshain ausgewählte Fotografien von Kindern und Jugendlichen aus Berlin und in diesem Jahr sind die Schüler*innen der 8d mit dabei! Eine Serie aus dem Kunstunterricht als auch die Ergebnisse des Workshops vor einigen Wochen werden mit ausgestellt. Bei der Exkursion in die Fotogalerie konnten wir neben dem Besuch der hervorragenden Ausstellung des World Press Photo Gewinners Peter Bauza auch schon die Auswahl unserer Bilder vornehmen und somit Einblicke in die Abläufe einer renommierten Galerie erhalten. Wir freuen uns, wenn Sie zur Eröffnung kommen, und laden Sie hiermit herzlich ein!

In Mrs. Adler’s English classes 7ABCD, we had a really fun project making podcast book reviews about books from our NMS library. In class we selected for you the top three or four from each class (Daniel, Gnima, Laurin, Aidan, Lilli, Lindsay, Anna and Alyssa). Listen to our podcasts to hear sound effects, summaries, and stories. Learn about the themes, setting and characters in the stories and decide whether you would like to read this book yourself.

am 15. Juni 2018 von 18-22 Uhr wird in der Nelson-Mandela-Schule die 3. Long Night of Knowledge stattfinden. In Anlehnung an die Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften, die in Berlin Tradition ist, möchten wir – die Lehrer und Schüler – ihnen interessante Beiträge zu Kultur und Naturwissenschaften präsentieren. Die Veranstaltung wird in unserem Campus in der Pfalzburger Straße 30 stattfinden. Sie und ihre Familien sind alle herzlich eingeladen.
Am 14. April fand auf dem Gelände des Olympischen Reiterstadions und dem Maifeld das Berliner Finale im Cross-Lauf der Schulen statt. Mit dabei waren auch 13 erfolgreiche Schülerinnen und Schüler unserer Schule.
Das „Zeichnen mit Licht“ wurde zum Thema im Kunstunterricht der 8d in den letzten Wochen. Unterstützt durch die Fotogalerie Friedrichshain durften die Schüler*innen mit selbstgebauten Leuchtkästen experimentieren. Dabei standen selbstkomponierte Stilleben mit gefundenen Materialien vom Schulhof im Vordergrund. Zusätzlich gibt uns das nette Team der Fotogalerie Friedrichshain die Gelegenheit ausgewählte Fotos in einer Ausstellung in ihren Galerieräumen zu zeigen! Konkrete Infos dazu folgen in Kürze!

The South African Embassy in Berlin commemorated Nelson Mandela, who would have turned 100 this year, with a special celebration and invited the choir of the Nelson Mandela School to be the main performer. The reception hall of the embassy was thoughtfully decorated with posters telling the impressive life story and great achievements of Nelson Mandela.
Under the direction of Mr. Beaner our choir was able to deliver a stunning performance.
