Every day from 10:05-10:30 two pupils from 4C assist the teachers in the schoolyard in helping children solve their conflicts. These children are dressed in bright yellow vests with the Friendly Bear logo at the back.

The idea of creating the Friendly Bears came from our class teacher, Frau Regina Ziche. It is a system we use in class to solve conflicts. When we were in Year 3, we learned ways on how to express ourselves through non-violent communication and this is the basis for the Friendly Bears.

As we saw its benefits, our educator made the suggestion to introduce it to the entire school. The very first Friendly Bears ambassadors were Max Winkler and Hannes von Nottbeck. Everyday, two more volunteers take on the role of helping children feel safer in the playground.

With the help of the Friendly Bears, teachers have more time to help children who get hurt. The program has become a success with many children coming to us wanting to become Friendly Bear ambassadors as well!
