Summer 2010: The primary schoolyard project is a joint effort by state, staff and parents to improve playground facilities on the schoolyard at Pfalzburger Straße 23. The first big step forward will be five installations at the back of the schoolyard (in between as well as under the big trees).

The project was initiated at the beginning of school year 2009-2010.The NMS primary school students have been involved from the start, as well as the teachers and, in particular, the educators. The Berlin Senat agency Grün macht Schule is also involved, providing important consultancy, contacts to builders, and some funding.

The development started with the children. What did they want? Which ideas did they have? Several workshops with discussions and model building with the consultants were held. The result of their joint efforts can be seen here: five installations providing a multitude of possibilities for physical and social activities. They will be put up in September/October 2010. During construction, some children will also continue to be active. The construction company is Knuth Seim Spielskulpturen.

Fund-raising efforts, in particular the Frühlingsfest and many, many cake sales have provided money for the project. Parents will fund around 75 per cent of the project directly or via the Friends of NMS. The total investment is roughly EUR 13,500.

A Fit For Fun Run was held in June and raised well over half the necessary money. Congratulations to all involved!
