In cooperation with the Goethe Institut, more than 10 Australian principals at both elementary and secondary schools from all parts of the country visited the Nelson Mandela School just a few weeks ago. They were on a tour through Berlin to learn about the German educational system and visit several different types of schools. Hence, they also came for a visit at our school.

As part of the programme they were firstly met with Head of School Christian Nitschke and the school’s UNESCO coordinator Lutz Mannes. Later, the visitors were also given a tour of the school building, showing them classrooms and giving them an opportunity to attend some of the courses and classes taking place that morning.

One of the highlights was the lunch meeting which was joined by school speaker Freddie Brown and several student members of the school’s UNESCO AG. Australia-themed decorations prompted a discussion about the school systems in the land ‘Down Under’ and Berlin. Despite the differences in the school systems, the visitors and our school’s representatives agreed that growing internationally, close links between staff and students and a broad education are the key to a successful academic life.
