A picture of the Classroom on the Street on the morning of the strike day. More information on the reasons on the strike and on what parents can do to support it below.

Dear Nelson Mandela community,

Next Monday 21/10 the GEW has organised a strike for Berlin teachers. The reasons are the same as the previous strikes this year; to improve the salary classification schemes for salaried teachers and improve the age-appropriate working conditions.

Many teachers will be striking and we thank the Nelson Mandela community for their support during our previous strike days.

On Monday morning at 7.40 we will be protesting out the front of the secondary school. A classroom on the street is the theme and we will be having an information session to answer questions like; Why are the teachers striking? Who are the striking for? What is the current situation with the negotiations with the education and finance departments?

We invite all teachers, educators, parents and students of the Nelson Mandela community to join us.

To further support our cause you can do the following:

  • If you have any media connections then get them to come along on Monday morning.
  • Send an email or letter to the education department.
  • Make a poster to bring on Monday.

We hope to see you on Monday

Tom Hyland (On behalf of the striking teachers)
