On November 30th, 2011 our first (primary) school-wide read aloud morning will take place!

Due to recent findings on reading and media research the teachers and educators of Nelson Mandela Primary would like to draw attention to the importance of reading aloud to children of all ages.

35 different books (poems, fairy tales, ghost stories etc.) will be offered. During the days prior to the read aloud morning, each child gets to pick two books that he/she would like to listen to on that Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, each child will receive a yellow slip of paper for the first reading session and a green one for the second session. Each reading session will take 30 minutes. There will be a small break in between those two sessions for the kids to find their next room. Just before 10 o’clock all students will go back to their classrooms to have breakfast and discuss their experiences.

What makes this read aloud morning so special is that all reading sessions at our school will take place at the same time which makes it possible for students of all grade levels to mix because most of the books are suitable for all age groups.
